The best foods to detox your liver

      March 18, 2016

Party too hard yesterday or just looking to stay healthy?

Well, I have 5 foods that will naturally cleanse your system.

Read on for some delicious foods to add to your diet (or throw in your blender) for a quick cleanse and nutritional boost.

      Beets:

Beets contain "betaine" which naturally detoxes the liver. Betain helps to remove toxic metals from the liver, and also contains other vitamins and enzymes to move things along.

Beets are best roasted (peel them after, it's easier) or pickled. Click the link before for a borsht recipe:

      Tumeric -

Tumeric is one of the best spices in the world. It's been known to prevent dementia and alzheimer's disease.

It will, however, stain everything in site. Be sure to wear an apron and use utensils you don't care about.

      Lemons:

Lemons are awesome for cleansing because the acidity on the toungue actually turns basic (alkaline) during digestion.

Lemon contains glutathione- which neutralizes free radicals and detoxifies the liver.

      More info

      Garlic:

Garlic contains sulpher, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, which all cleanse the liver. If you can stomach it raw, slice some over salads, top over casseroles, or blend into juice. Personally, I'm obsessed with roasted garlic and I put. it. on. everything.

Asparagus contains glutathione, which detoxes the liver. It is also a natural diuretic.

      Asparagus:

Asparagus, like lemon, also contains glutathione, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants and works to detoxify the liver.

Yes, it makes your pee smell. The sulpher-smell results from the amino-acid breakdown during digestion. You know, so you know it's working.

Enjoy these regularly or as a quick boost when you're feeling sluggish.
